title: Why is my BEER BOX rusting?
description: The BEER BOX arrives with a black rolling skin that fades as a natural rust patina forms within 1–2 years. Rust accelerators can speed this up. Avoid use on delicate floors, as Corten steel may stain during the rusting process.

# Why is my BEER BOX rusting?
## Through the rusting process of Corten steel, the BEER BOX becomes more durable over time and also gains a unique appearance.
**Good to know:**
The BEER BOX is initially delivered with a so-called rolling skin (color: matte black), which will wear off over time and be replaced by the natural rust patina. It may take up to 1.5 to 2 years for the entire fire basket to develop an even rust finish.
For a more uniform result in less time, rust accelerators such as those from CortenPlus can be used.
**Please also note:**
Corten steel may display temporary discoloration, which will normalize and re-rust naturally over time. It is inherent to Corten steel that rust particles may come loose and staining, or “bleeding,” can occur, as the rusting process is continuous. For this reason, we do not recommend using our Corten products on delicate or high-quality tile or stone flooring.
