Do you refund VAT when a product is imported into Switzerland?
If you live outside the EU, for example in Switzerland, you can generally shop tax-free in Germany as a traveler. However, sellers are not obliged to waive or refund VAT.
Please also note:
-
Export must take place in personal luggage. Shipping by mail or courier does not qualify.
-
Export must occur during a non-commercial trip.
-
Goods must be exported by the end of the third month after receipt.
-
The total order value (including VAT) must exceed €50.
To prove tax-free export in non-commercial travel, three documents are required:
-
Proof of export
-
Proof of purchaser
-
Accounting proof
Detailed information and the official form for VAT refund can be found in the German Customs leaflet on VAT exemption for non-commercial exports.
